A closer look at the kitties

So the main two kitties who come to my house have decided that I’m okay. They let me pet them, scritch them on the neck, head, and chest, rub them along their sides with both hands and even pick them up a couple of inches off the ground. That last one freaks them out a little bit, but not in a scratchy bitey kind of way. More of a “hey, watcha doin’?” sort of way.

So here is boy kitty with the white patch on his chest with girl kitty. This boy kitty is more skittish than the other one. But he’s decided if the other cats like me, he can be this close and it’ll be okay. You’ll notice the girl kitty is kind of football shaped. Once I was able to run my hands down her side, I realized she was all full of kittens. I’m really torn. I know I should take her in and have her fixed, but she’s pretty far along. Meh. Hey, if I wait long enough the decision will be made for me. Funny how that works.

And this is girl kitty again mid-meow beside my oregano in the planter box. She looks kind of freaked out in the pic, but she’s just sayin’ “Hi”.

Say goodbye to your little kitty balls

grey catThe grey kitties still come by at the appointed times for their crunchies. Two hang out on my porch even after the food is gone. Saturday, I went out and sat on the porch with them. They head butting and rubbing on each other, twisting around in circles, occasionally throwing themselves down on the sidewalk. I heard purring. The boy cat would get brave every once in a while and head up the steps toward me. He’d stop and sniff my shoe, then go back down and rub on his cat friend some more. So cute! I think this is the boy cat pictured here lounging on the railing.

When buying more dog food today, the woman at Park Pet Supply gave some information on spaying & neutering feral cat colonies. I sent off an email this evening and hopefully soon I’ll have a trap or two and be able to get these guys fixed. There are probably 7 or 8 feral cats running around here, that I know of, and they can quickly turn into to 50 if I don’t do something.

My back porch is a zoo

You know how I had one grey cat eating on my back porch and then discovered it was two? Well, how many grey cats do you see in this picture? That’s two on the porch and one sitting on my old doormat that they have dragged out into my yard.

But wait, that’s not all. Last weekend while I was in my kitchen, I heard a very loud “crunch crunch crunch” coming from outside. The cats don’t eat that loudly. I peek out the window and see this, a ‘possum. I know they love cat food. I opened the door and chased it off. It wasn’t in much of a hurry to go. I’m sure it’ll be back.

And then later this week I discovered yet another critter eating cat food on my porch. There’s a little brown bird that perches on the edge of their cat bowl and eats the broken crunchies. Today it was so warm that I had my back door open. And somehow the cat food eating bird slipped under the screen door and ended up in my kitchen. He wasn’t too happy about that. Luckily I was able to get him back out fairly quickly. At least he was smart enough to know which way he wanted to go.
