See how they grow

I haven’t said much about kittens lately. Actually, I haven’t said much at all relying mostly on my delicio.us links to pretend I’m actually blogging. I still have all of the kittens. The highly destructive phase continues. But at least it’s fun to watch.  Even when they are climbing the door jam. How big are they now? Let’s compare:

They grow so fast! More pics in the flickr account.

Growing into little terrors

The kittens have definitely turned into little bundles of fun. They wrestle, play with toys, bite each other, purr, do halloween cat, and sleep in little piles. They’re eating crunchy food now and going in or slightly around the litter box. The one grey boy is still a lot bigger than the other two. He looks like he’s two weeks older than the others. Mama is also blossoming. She’s exploring the house more. This morning she was running around like a crazy cat and even sort of played with Tak for a bit. Tak still isn’t quite sure how to play with her without provoking the sharp bits. She’s quick and good at dodging them though. More new pictures here.

Almost two weeks old

The kittens eyes are now wide open. The white one is lagging behind a bit. He doesn’t eat as much and is thinner and smaller. He seems to want to eat, but loses his way to the nipple. And isn’t interested when you put one in front of him. I’ve been supplementing him with a bit of kitten milk replacer. And he does suckle sometimes. Hopefully that’ll be enough to keep him going until they can start eating a mash. Mom is also still taking care of him, so he hasn’t been rejected. The striped ones have started playing with each other. They lay on their sides and box each other, occasionally biting on one another. They’re funny when they sleep. They look like little dead bodies.

One week old…getting a look at things

The kittens are a week old now and their eyes are starting to open. The white one, aside from proudly displaying his junk below, is indeed going to have siamese markings. I think you can see in these pictures that his tail and ears are starting to darken. He also seems to have gotten over his bottom of the stack status. So far no one is clearly dominate. The brown tabby likes to roll around on her back a lot. And one of the grey tabbies was biting someone else. But it’s still mostly a routine of sleeping and eating.

A closer look at the kitties

So the main two kitties who come to my house have decided that I’m okay. They let me pet them, scritch them on the neck, head, and chest, rub them along their sides with both hands and even pick them up a couple of inches off the ground. That last one freaks them out a little bit, but not in a scratchy bitey kind of way. More of a “hey, watcha doin’?” sort of way.

So here is boy kitty with the white patch on his chest with girl kitty. This boy kitty is more skittish than the other one. But he’s decided if the other cats like me, he can be this close and it’ll be okay. You’ll notice the girl kitty is kind of football shaped. Once I was able to run my hands down her side, I realized she was all full of kittens. I’m really torn. I know I should take her in and have her fixed, but she’s pretty far along. Meh. Hey, if I wait long enough the decision will be made for me. Funny how that works.

And this is girl kitty again mid-meow beside my oregano in the planter box. She looks kind of freaked out in the pic, but she’s just sayin’ “Hi”.
