Mmmm cherry juice

I’ve always loved cherries. My favorite pie is cherry. Love tart cherry jam. If I can get a hold of a vegan chocolate covered cherry, yum! Too bad fresh ones are so expensive even when in season. So when Cheribundi emailed me asking if I wanted to try their cherry juice it wasn’t a hard sell.

Cheribundi has three varieties, Tru, Skinny and Whey. I just asked that they not send me any whey since it’s not vegan. They nicely followed directions and the Tru and Skinny juices arrived. Of the two, I definitely like the Tru Cherry best. While you save 40 calories with the Skinny variety, the Tru Cherry has a more intense cherry flavor.

What great recipes did I make with the cherry juice? Well, I didn’t cook with it at all. I just drank it. Oh, I did make a cocktail. It took a while to find a cocktail that used cherry juice that I had all the other ingredients for. Which cocktail did that turn out to be? Why, the Louisiana Leg Spreader! And it ended up being sweeter than I like. But at least I did something other than guzzle this stuff out of the bottle, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

I’m not sure what part of the country you can get this stuff though. According to the find a retailer function of their site, Cheribundi isn’t in any stores within 250  miles of me. As I’ve said before though, I’m more of a fruit eater than drinker.

New POM Wonderful Juices

You know, apparently I’m just not a big juice drinker. POM sent me two of their new juice blends to try a couple of weeks ago at least and I just today got to the second one. It’s not that I don’t like juice. I’m just more of a fruit eater than drinker.

Anyway, first up was the POM Nectarine. A nice blend. The nectarine did a good job of standing up to the assertive pomegranate. The POM Kiwi was much more subtle and it was mostly pomegranate that came through. I found both juices easier for me to drink than straight pomegranate but they were still a bit strong for me. Maybe a little apple juice mixed in would make it more palatable for me. I did drink a full serving of each but there was no way I could drink more than that. I guess that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Click through the links to see nutritional information, etc. I know POM has left a bad taste (ha, I’m funny!) in some vegan’s mouths because of their past animal testing. They did stop back in 2007 which is the only reason I agreed to try their products. Oh, and this is not a paid blog post. POM has sent me samples of some of their products but that’s the extent of the schwag I’ve received.

On a side note, I love how Whole Foods got all up in arms and was threatening to pull POM off their shelves over animal testing when they sell animal products. Hello?

Need some pomegranate ideas

A week or so ago I got an email from POM Wonderful offering to send me some of their products. Yay! Hey, it only took me 8 years of blogging to get offered some free stuff. And since they have stopped testing on animals, I agreed to receive whatever it is they wanted to send me. It turned out to be a case of 12 cute little bottles of pomegranate juice.

Okay, so what do I do with these? I drank one, of course. Duh. I already have pomegranate molasses for some Persian recipes I make from time to time. I need some ideas to save me from using the rest to make POMtinis. No one wants that. Googling around I did get a couple of ideas: Pomegranate and Maple Glazed Beets and Persephone Cupcakes. If you have any other ideas that use just the juice, not the seeds, drop ’em in the comments. Vegan, of course.
