Because I have no original thoughts, I totally copied Leigh’s meatball subs. When she posted about them a couple of weeks ago I knew it was only a matter of time before I had to make them. Last night was the night. A couple of soft rolls, Italian Sausage Match Meat, Teese, and a jar of Trader Joe’s marinara. Pretty lazy food, but really tasty! I was surprised that the marinara needed no doctoring.
I defrosted the Match Meat and formed it into balls, Then I baked them on a cookie sheet for about 20 minutes at around 400 degrees F. Around halfway through they should be turned. It was more like 3/4 of the way through for me because I wasn’t paying attention. Then, I tossed the marinara into a sauce pan and simmered the balls in the sauce until everything was good and warm. The rolls were split, Teese slices placed along both sides and then it we broiled until the Teese melted. Slapped on some balls & sauce, then ate it up. Yum!
I know I’ve seen at least one mention of lady time food during VeganMoFo. I’m going to add to that. Yesterday was the peak of the unpleasantness that comes with lady time, so I treated myself with a Sweet & Sarah Smore Pie. The peanut butter one to be exact. Now, I’ve never bought the marshmallows because I don’t miss them all that much. But when you slap it between cookies and cover it in chocolate it becomes way more appealing. And it did not disappoint. The peanut butter flavor was fairly mild. The chocolate was outstanding. And the marshmallow texture was intriguing. I can imagine how fascinating this would be to eat stoned, so don’t hit up Cosmo’s or your local Smore Pie carrying establishment while you’re wasted or you’ll spend your whole paycheck on this things.
Yesterday, I got my November issue of Gourmet in the mail. I think I got the subscription for free on some offer at amazon.com. Usually there’s only a recipe here and there that is naturally vegan and maybe a couple more that might be worth veganizing. So it was really nice to be flipping through and find a whole vegetarian Thanksgiving menu spread. What’s even better, is that when I looked it up at their site, they actually have 3 vegetarian menus online! Okay, not vegan, but still, most of the recipes are pretty easily veganized. Seriously, you’ve got to check out the pumpkin stuffed with vegetable stew on the website. How impressive would that look as a centerpiece?
This Sunday was the monthly gathering for our Atlanta Vegan Activity Group. Sometimes we have potlucks and sometimes we go to restaurants. This month we headed to Harmony Vegetarian for Chinese food. It’s on Buford Highway, so if you’re not normally in the area it’s a good time to hit up the ethnic groceries for specialized ingredients.
I knew when I got up Saturday morning and it was finally feeling like Fall that I was going to be all about getting soup at Harmony. The craving stayed with me until Sunday, so I got the Ham Noodle Soup. And it was exactly what I wanted. Nice broth, pink hammy chunks, veggies and oodles of noodles.
Kevin can’t get out of there without a Chinese Pizza. Here he’s finishing it up with his General Tso’s Chicken in the background. The nice thing about our main vegan/vegan-friendly Chinese restaurants, Harmony, Green Sprout and Chinese Buddha, is that they all offer brown rice as an option.
