Too much thali

Kevin, Simon and I stopped in to Chat Patti for a late lunch and we got strong armed into ordering the thali. Hey, it was $8.99. How could we not? We each got a plate of what I call Indian nachos:

Fried bits covered with various condiments. Mmm. And, the thali…needless to say I took home leftovers.

The cabbage thing, third from the left, kind of tasted like froot loops. In a good way. Nothing was super spicy this time, but that’s not always the case. Vegans, just ask for no dairy and they’ll set you up. I think those ring things have honey in them though, so keep that in mind.

Grandma’s Boy brunch potluck

It somehow came out at one gathering or another that I’d never seen Grandma’s Boy. And just like that, a Grandma’s Boy potluck was planned. Brunch and a movie. Okay, it wasn’t the worst thing ever, and I did laugh a few times, but mostly it was underwhelming. But now I’ve seen it and can stop getting harassed about it.

Brunch was awesome though:

Scramble on top of grits, a cheezy biscuit, raw garlicky kale, stuffed crescent rolls and coffee cake.

Pre-made vegan bahn mi in Atlanta

One day at work I found myself lunchless, so I ran over to Return to Eden to pick up something. They used to have these awesome fake turkey salad sandwiches that disappeared a while ago. I keep hoping they’ll come back. Instead, I found this:

Oh, hi there. Dare I risk mushy bread? Of course I had to get it. For science! It wasn’t too bad. Yes, there was a little bread mush. The tofu itself was kind of bland. And I was completely without sriracha, which is a necessity here. But it was a reasonable attempt.

Now, Sevananda has started putting out vegan bahn mi with their pre-made sandwiches and wraps. But like the parfaits, they aren’t always there. I haven’t had one yet, but will try one and make a blog about it, at some point.

Lunch at Cafe Life

If we’re hungry and we’re up by Cosmo’s Vegan Shoppe, we sometimes grab a bite at Cafe Life. It can be hit or miss and not entirely consistent, but I don’t think we’ve ever had bad food there. They’ve just updated their menu and are offering a weekend brunch. But we just got some sammiches. I got the “crab” cake. It was good but could’ve used something to up the crabbiness. Maybe Old Bay.

Kevin got the burger. That’s one item that’s been fairly consistent. They use beets in it so keep that in mind if you hate them. We both got sweet potato salad as a side.

Oh, how did this peanut butter chocolate cake get here? Their baked goods tend to use whole grains and I think this cake was even gluten free. You could hardly tell though. It was moist and not gritty at all.

Goatse potluck

That sure does sound appetizing, doesn’t it? Our potluck themes definitely seem to be escalating. I suppose it’s not going to stop until we’re all fighting over toilets, sinks and buckets to puke in.

So, the themed dishes will probably give you a good idea of what goatse is if you aren’t familiar. If you find yourself googling this, the result will be not safe for work, lunch, eyes, etc. You have been warned.

The is the beefy stew pot pie I brought. There was another one, but this one was the best. Lol at the carrot floater.

I also brought roasted delicata squash. But it wasn’t on theme. So good though. If you’ve been ignoring these in the market, you need to fix that. No peeling!

Back to the themed dishes…excellent use of the slashes on the sourdough. I can’t remember what was under the bread. An Italian pasta thing I’m guessing.

Uh, hollowed out corn muffins with chili, I think:

Now we’re going to get a little more abstract:

What horrible thing will we come up with next?
