Chaco Canyon Organic Café and views

Okay, so maybe it was time to find the healthier side of vegan food in Seattle. Chaco Canyon Organic Café seemed like it might do the trick. Whose waffle is this? I’m definitely waiting too long to post this stuff…

This is a small Hippie Bowl which I would be happy eating some version of every day, any meal. Tofu, carrots, quinoa and sprouts in a tahini sauce.

And this juice was delicious, whatever it was.

Kevin had the Tofu Scramble Sandwich.

And a samosa made with sweet potatoes.

After this, we dropped Jared off at the airport and went up in the Columbia Center to check out the view. It was the clearest day of our trip, but we were still denied awesome mountain views.

Plum Bistro & Portishead

Of course we went to Plum Bistro while we were in Seattle. The raving about the Mac & Yease could not be ignored. It seemed like it might be healthier than Soul Vegetarian’s but just as creamy and tasty. What put it over the top for me was the crusty bits.

We also got a plate of sliders, three different types, that we cut up in pieces so we could all try them. And their slider size is about normal home burger size.

My entrée was Fennel Grilled Tempeh with a polenta cake and greens.

I think Kevin had the Country Fried Seitan Steak sandwich. But I’m not sure. It looks more like that than the Crazy Jamaican.

Taylor & Kevin full of noms.

And, later that evening, the whole reason for the trip, Portishead. This was easily one of the best sounding shows I’ve ever seen. The crowd was so respectful that they held most cheering and noise for between songs. Everyone was nearly silent.

Pike Place Market

Welp, time to be a tourist! We wandered through and around Pike Place Market. Oh, look, vegan cinnamon rolls as big as your head.

I think these had a maple glaze on them. It’s hard to keep Seattle’s hundreds of vegan cinnamon roll options straight. Oh yeah, they have fruits and vegetables there too. Yawn.

The vegans avoided the whole fish tossing business, but we did go in search of the gum wall.

And around the corner were these cute little buggers.

Uh oh, we walked for 10 minutes. We probably need to eat again…

Wayward Vegan Cafe, round 1

Apparently cinnamon rolls grow on trees in Seattle. When we got to Wayward Vegan Cafe they had a whole pan of these things sitting right next to the register where you order. Really? How the hell can you avoid ordering that when it’s staring at you like that? The answer is, you can’t.

Hillbilly Omelet: filled with sausage and hash browns, covered with gravy, deep fried potatoes on the side. Oooof.

Kevin got Seitan on a Shingle:

Kevin offers up his grits:

And here is Taylor molesting his burrito, not sure which one.

Post hike Mexican food at El Chupacabra

After all that exertion, we were ready for some food. Kevin found a Mexican restaurant near the townhouse that had vegan options. Also, it was called El Chupacabra, so we HAD to go. They use Daiya cheese and Gardein meats but unlike a lot of places, they actually further flavor the Gardein with their own sauces.

I had the Gardein chicken enchiladas in a green sauce.

This was a huge plate of food. I could not finish it even after all the hiking. In addition to the cheeziness on top, there was plenty of melty Daiya inside with the Gardein. Happy tummy.

I’m not sure if Kevin got a burrito or chimachanga, but here it is.

And, they had an awesome jukebox.

We desperately need a Mexican restaurant here that has fake meats and Daiya. But I’d settle for just the Daiya. But for now we have to settle for creating our own deliciousness at potlucks.
