Chewy Chocolate Cherry Cookies

chocolate cherry cookiesYou know the Chewy Chocolate Raspberry Cookies in Veganomicon? Well, I only had cherry preserves. And not even enough of that, so I had to add some sour cherry butter to get up to the right amount. Still, these came out perfect. Warm out of the oven, slightly crispy edges and soft on the inside. Mmmmmmmmm.

Vegan Brunch

Okay, yeah, it’s been almost a week since the vegan brunch I had at my house, but finally here are some pictures.  Below we have Chocolate Chip Brownie Waffles from Veganomicon, biscuits & yeast gravy, fruit, Indian spiced greens in the crock pot, and sweet rolls. vegan brunch 1 Here the coffee cake on the far side comes into view.vegan brunch And a better look at those sweet rolls, some “sausages” and hiding in the back, Beer Battered Seitan from Yellow Rose Recipes, Punk Rock Chickpea Gravy from Vegan with a Vengeance and whole grain waffles. vegan brunchOh, and this wasn’t all. We also had sweet potato hash browns, a fruit salad, some potatoes maybe and probably more stuff I’m forgetting. Let’s put it this way, this was the only meal I ate this day. So much yummy food!  And since the “chicken” ‘n waffles didn’t really show up well on the table, here it is as blurry leftovers:chicken and waffles

Mexican Food at Across the Street

Doesn’t a Mexican restaurant with a number of choices for vegans sound great? Of course it does! A week or so ago Matt and I checked out Across the Street over on Highland by Cosmo’s.

Inside it’s cosy and vibrant. We were there pretty early, so I don’t know how loud it gets in there. It wasn’t an issue at all for us. Warm crispy chips & a nice red salsa arrived. We went ahead and got some guacamole as well. And margaritas. All of the above were excellent.  Matt ordered carnitas (he’s not veg, der) and I got the tacos with one tvp and one tofu. He didn’t like his carnitas. Thought it was too tough and dry. My tacos were pretty good. The tvp was clearly made by a non-veg person. It tasted like they reconstituted the tvp in plain water then just kind of cooked it with some taco seasoning. So, they need to figure out that tvp needs to be soaked in something flavorful before cooking. The tofu was great though. If I remember right it had a light dusting of seasoned cornmeal and was fried. Pan-fried, I think. The rice seemed slightly mushy, but tasted good. The beans seemed slightly bland at first but I found that I appreciated them more as I ate them, so I think they were fine. There are more vegan options on the menu, so I’m all for going back and checking out something else.

  • To the companion animal that keeps puking on my bed: please do that on the hardwood floors in the future. kthx
  • According to Paula Deen, fish “has no fat.” Um, okay.
  • So far, this election has been far more entertaining than I’d imagined. I’m not looking forward to Tuesday when it’ll probably narrow down to two.
  • They’ve made this whole blog customization crap way too easy. Why I remember when templates were so simple and bare that you had to fiddle with ’em forever to get them to look reasonable. Now it’s just grab, upload, activate. Select widgets. Done. I haven’t touched the code at all this evening. I’m getting soft.
